Made of beautiful beechwood, each part is precision crafted into beams of 2.5x2.5 cm. The width beams are milled and slide seamlessly over the invisible handmade metal dowels. Which not only provides flexibility in adjusting its shape during the shaping proces, but also keeps everything firmly together. The airy hanging aluminium interior contrasts beautifully with the sturdy wooden construction.
Inspired by Gijs's grandmother's classic Dutch linen cupboard, which as a child made him dream with amazement about what was stored inside. We turned the originally heavy mahogany cabinet inside out and constructed our own contemporary open version from raw finished materials like beechwood and aluminium. A playful yet careful process into working with wood, shaping a natural material in an unconventional way of making furniture.
